I’ve said it before, and I will say it again…your children are awesome! Thank you for sharing them with us! They are so eager to learn and excited about each activity we introduce. Math: We worked on fact families, commutative, associative, and identity properties of addition. We also introduced the sign language letters C (for commutative property), A (for associative property), and I for (identity property). A fun activity was using the sign language sign to let me know what property I was showing them. Language Arts: We learned about 1st and 3rd person point of view, who is actually telling the story. We practiced a variety of activities to master our understanding of this skill. Science: We continued researching each chosen planet, and designed a special looking cover for their research in art. This work will continue in class during science time, until completion, and is worth a science grade. Social Studies: We completed our 3rd lesson about leaders and their roles and responsibilities in our communities. Each child answered 5 questions having to do with the lesson. Each Monday we will introduce our next SS lesson. The questions for each lesson are due by Friday. The children work on this in class. Writing: We finished our third writing piece about something peculiar. This week we will begin work on a written piece about a favorite restaurant. Work cycle: we have time for 2 smaller work cycles during our day. This is the time the children work independently with materials from the shelves. Each child will be able to follow their work plan to complete their weekly work.
New academic additions to our day: I’m pleased to introduce 2 new academic activities that I am sure your child will be excited about. Xtramath: this is a math fact practice website. Each child has been given their own PIN # and practices their math facts in the classroom, daily. Information about how to log on and set your child’s account up was sent home. Please remind your child to use it nightly. It’s quick, fun and will help them tremendously! RazKids: this is an online reading activity where the children can choose a book on their level, listen to the story, record themselves reading, and take an online quiz to see how well they comprehended the story. They work on this in class daily.
