We have a class full of fantastic boys and girls! They are friendly, respectful, and eager to learn! Math: We worked on addition and subtraction strategies, adding and subtracting with and without regrouping, and we learned how to break apart word problems using our brand new strategy QIOS. Ask your child to explain what that is. Language Arts: We learned about round and flat characters. We also learned a lot about character traits and how to figure out what special traits each character possesses. Science: We began our solar system study this week. The children chose a planet to research, and are excited about their learning. Please remember this work will take place in the classroom during science time and their research will count as a science grade! Social Studies: We completed our 2nd lesson about communities. Each child answered 5 questions having to do with the lesson. Each Monday we will introduce our next SS lesson. The questions for each lesson are due by Friday. The children work on this in class. Writing: We finished our second writing piece about Responsible Me. This week we will begin work on a written piece about something peculiar. Work cycle: we have time for 2 smaller work cycles during our day. This is the time the children work independently with materials from the shelves. Each child will be able to follow their work plan to complete their weekly work.
New academic additions to our day: I’m pleased to introduce 2 new academic activities that I am sure your child will be excited about. Xtramath: this is a math fact practice website. Each child will be given their own PIN # and be able to practice math facts, in the classroom, daily. I will send information home once we get it running in class. RazKids: this is an online reading activity where the children can choose a book on their level, listen to the story, record themselves, and take an online quiz to see how well they comprehended the story. They will be able to work on this in class.
A few reminders please…
